0. Ensure your build environment works (C compiler, libc headers, make).

1. Ensure you have the Speex library, at least version 1.1.6. Cf. <URL:
http://www.speex.org/ >.

2. Type "make [options]". Options can be:

   CC=<your C compiler> (default: gcc)
   CPPFLAGS=<your C preprocessor flags>
   CFLAGS=<your C compiler flags> (overrides the previous option)
   USER_CFLAGS=<additional C compiler flags> (if you want to add instead of
	overriding)
   LDFLAGS=<your linker options>
   LIBS=<additional libraries options>
   INTERFACE=<interface> (only available for now: text)
   SOUND=<sound back-end> (only available for now: alsa)

   Example:

   make \
     USER_CFLAGS="-I/opt/speex/include -march=k7" \
     LDFLAGS="-L/opt/speex/lib -Wl,-rpath,/opt/speex/lib" \
     INTERFACE=gtk \
     SOUND=oss

  (well, gtk and oss are science fiction at this time)

3. Type make install to copy the binary and the man page on a standard
place. You can use the PREFIX= and DESTDIR= options. Note that the binary
does not include any reference to its path.
